Bullying and Cyberbullying Basics for Parents Handout
This handout accompanies the video presentation, Bullying and Cyberbullying Basics for Parents, where Dr. Aida Midgett, Professor and Chair, Counselor Education, Boise State University, shares prevalence rates of bullying and cyberbullying in Idaho, defines what bullying is and what it isn’t, as well as talks about the negative consequences of bullying for targets and bystanders. Dr. Midgett also shares four specific strategies students can use when they witness bullying to act as “defenders” on behalf of targets based on her extensive research in the area of bullying prevention and intervention. She also discusses what parents can do to help their kids if they are bullied or witness bullying at school or online.
